Man Arrested for Allegedly Pulling Gun on Two Strangers in Downtown Parking Garage

An off-duty officer intervened.

A Florida man has been charged with a list of felonies after allegedly pointing a gun at two strangers early Sunday morning in a downtown parking garage.

Griffin Thompson, 23, of Cape Coral, Fla. was arrested and charged Sunday (with more charges added Monday) with brandishing a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, two counts of assault, obstruction of justice, drunk in public, firearm in commission of a felony, abduction by force and malicious shooting.

The altercation started when Thompson walked into two men near the parking garage entrance (Chain Bridge Road and North Street) just before 2 a.m. on Sunday, said Sgt. Joe Johnson of the . They argued, and Thompson allegedly pulled a handgun on the two men.

Fairfax City Officer Joseph Nunemaker stumbled across the three men while off duty, working security for a downtown property management company. As Nunemaker approached, Thompson tried to leave the area, allegedly dropping the handgun into a trash can.

The two victims did not know Thompson. Neither of them were injured.

this is why I pack heat wherever I go. Responsible gun ownership is a good thing

Yes, responsible gun ownership is a right we all have. Got that. But hopefully, Lifelong, you're actually a resident of someplace else and are just another of the gun-totin' 2nd amendment zealots that seem to patrol sites where the word "gun" appears. Chances are someone would be dead today had you and your friends arrived at the scene, all packed with heat and light beer. At 2am we need our police making life or death decisions, not Joe Vigilante. Sorry if I sound dismissive, but the only person I've known to be shot was killed by a "responsible gun owner" like yourself who mistook her son for a bad guy at 2am.

Francis Zealot maybe a strong word to use . I have lived in the City since 1976 next to old town Fairfax ,and seen a rise in weapon related crime in the last 3 years. Due to mainly a influx of people who for what ever reason do not want too, one work for what they want or come from back rounds where the use of a weapon to take what they want or solve problems and issues is standered . I think if you look into it your shooting was done by some one that did not hold a concealed permit. Which in obtaining it makes you very aware and less likely to use it having had to learn more about what happens to you when you do have too. At 2 AM there are not that many police available on a Sun to be every where . Part of the problem is people in general are no longer willing to get involved in there fellow mans plite and will walk by with the idea police will take care of it and then read about it in the paper the next day and yap about how they where there but leave out the part that the just watched or walked away and left a fellow human roasting on the spit . Police a streched thin in the city because of buget ,I,m willing to pay more if thats the answer but are you ? I think not . I,m able to list far more storys of gun owners saving or preventing crime than causing it . God made all people diffent Sam Colt made them equal. I guess I,ll take the title zealot and vigilante and get involved in helping my fellow man out and not just punching buttons on a cell phone and watching .

This guy carries a gun. The guy that can't spell "plight", let alone identify with anyone else's. Its staggering to think that people who carry guns around are either a thug or a zealot. Not sure who I am am afraid of more. Ill take the thug, they can be reasoned with.
