Man Arrested for Allegedly Pulling Gun on Two Strangers in Downtown Parking Garage

An off-duty officer intervened.

A Florida man has been charged with a list of felonies after allegedly pointing a gun at two strangers early Sunday morning in a downtown parking garage.

Griffin Thompson, 23, of Cape Coral, Fla. was arrested and charged Sunday (with more charges added Monday) with brandishing a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, two counts of assault, obstruction of justice, drunk in public, firearm in commission of a felony, abduction by force and malicious shooting.

The altercation started when Thompson walked into two men near the parking garage entrance (Chain Bridge Road and North Street) just before 2 a.m. on Sunday, said Sgt. Joe Johnson of the . They argued, and Thompson allegedly pulled a handgun on the two men.

Fairfax City Officer Joseph Nunemaker stumbled across the three men while off duty, working security for a downtown property management company. As Nunemaker approached, Thompson tried to leave the area, allegedly dropping the handgun into a trash can.

The two victims did not know Thompson. Neither of them were injured.
