Main-Pickett Road Rage? Malicious Wounding at Shoppers

Crime news from the last two weeks.

Police seek a white pickup driver who threatened another at the Pickett Road and Main Street intersection, as well as a man who beat up a 19-year-old at the Shopper's Food parking lot.

  • Vandalism, Westmore School Building: Someone(s) broke a window on the south side of the school building, activating a security alarm at around 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 10. Police believe no one entered the former school.
  • Illegal Dumping, Old Lee Plaza Parking Lot: Two men were seen dumping aluminum and drywall into a condominium association dumpster at around 12:50 p.m. on Nov. 14.
  • Malicious Wounding, Shoppers Food Warehouse Parking Lot: A 19-year-old Fairfax City man told police he was pushed to the ground by an unknown man and beaten over the head at around 10:40 p.m. on Nov. 14. The suspect, described as a six-foot tall, possibly Hispanic man with long brown hair ran toward Pickett Road. He had on a Washington Capitals jersey and was carrying a case of beer and a bottle of beer. The victim was treated at INOVA Fairfax Hospital.
  • Hit and Run, Intersection of University Drive and North Street: An officer stopped a car after noticing it had suffered extensive damage at around 12:30 a.m. on Nov. 11. Driver Jose Valentino Marquez-Hernandez, 43, of Barrick Street in Merrifield was charged with driving while intoxicated, felony hit and run, and driving without an operator's license. He is alleged to have hit a vehicle on Old Lee Highway and fled from the scene of the crime.
  • Larceny, Old Fire Station No. 3: Someone(s) stole a purse containing cash, credit cards, identification, pills, keys and a couple of cell phones from the bar counter sometime between 11:30 and 12:30 the night of Nov. 14.
  • Larceny, Farrish of Fairfax Jeep: Someone(s) stole a Virginia dealer tag from the dealership office between Oct. 1 and Nov. 1.
  • Attempted Fraud, 3100 block of Singleton Circle: An unknown man in Jamaica kept calling residents at a Singleton Circle home asking them send hundreds of dollars to an Alabama address in return for $2.5 million. The determined caller used an obscenity at one point. The residents contacted police at 8:09 p.m. on Nov. 15.
  • Larceny, Fairfax Boulevard 7-Eleven Parking Lot: Someone(s) removed all hubcaps from a vehicle sometime between 3 p.m. and midnight on Nov. 15.
  • Vandalism, 11100 Block of Snughaven Lane: Someone(s) slashed all the tires on a vehicle sometimes between 6 p.m. Nov. 15 and 7:15 a.m. Nov. 16.
  • Larceny, 9600 Block of Ridge Avenue: Someone(s) stole cash and a checkbook from a vehicle's center console sometime between 1 p.m. Nov. 14 and 6 a.m. Nov. 14. The vehicle may have been unlocked.
  • Shoplifting, K-Mart: Arlington residents Tarrance Lee Wells, 53, and Cynthia Lynn Pelham, 39, were arrested for allegedly trying to steal Kmart merchandise at around 3:13 p.m. on Nov. 17.
  • Threats, Intersection of Main Street and Pickett Road: A driver told police that a man drove his small white pickup truck beside the victim on Nov. 17, slammed his door into that of the victim's vehicle and started beating the victim's vehicle windows. He was threatening to assault the victim. The man had been following the victim prior to the outburst. The victim drove away and contacted police at 4:35 p.m. Police were unable to find the suspect.
