UPDATED: Head of FAA Nabbed for Alleged DWI in Fairfax

He was seen driving the wrong way on Old Lee Highway.

UPDATE (3:03 p.m.): Babbitt has been placed on leave. He requested it, according to The Washington Post.

The head of the Federal Aviation Administration was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated Saturday night in Fairfax City.

A Fairfax City police officer stopped Jerome Randolph Babbitt, 65, of Reston at 10:30 p.m. for driving down the wrong side of Old Lee Highway near the and police station.

Babbitt, the FAA's 16th administrator, was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was placed on a personal recognizance bond.

The FAA is an agency of the U.S. Department of Transportation tasked with flight safety, regulation, technology and training.
