Gas Leak on Sager Avenue

UPDATE (11:37 a.m.): The gas leak was reported at 10:30 a.m. An appliance caused the leak, spreading a gas-like odor throughout multiple floors in the apartment building. The leak did not cause any elevated gas readings.

No residents were evacuated, said Assistant Chief Andrew Vita of the City of Fairfax Fire Department, despite information provided by a Fairfax County emergency alert.

Vita said fire and emergency personnel will likely leave the scene within the hour.

Firefighters are responding to reports of a gas leak in a Sager Avenue residence. The building, located on 10328 Sager Ave. is being evacuated, according to a message sent by the Fairfax County Emergency Alert Network.

Fairfax City sent out an alert warning drivers to avoid Sager Avenue and Main Street near East Street in downtown Fairfax. The alert said that emergency vehicles could back up traffic.
