Fairfax Officer, Small Child Injured in Suspected Drunk Driving Crash

Alleged drunk driver with child in tow hit Fairfax County police car Monday on Route 66 eastbound near Monument Drive.

A small child was seriously injured late Monday in a crash officials are calling a suspected drunk driving accident. 

The child was a passenger in the car of the suspected drunk driver, who just after 10 p.m. hit the car of a Fairfax County police officer conducting a traffic stop, department spokesperson Don Gotthardt told Patch.

The driver's car then hit another vehicle traveling on Route 66, Gotthardt said.

It appears the officer was in his cruiser when the crash occurred, Gotthardt said. The officer is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The child, whose age and gender have not been confirmed, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, Gotthardt said.

The county's crash reconstruction team is responding to the scene of the accident, on Route 66 near Monument Drive.
