Everyone OK in Shirley Gate House Fire

No injuries in early-morning house fire.

Firefighters battled an early morning blaze in a Shirley Gate Road home Saturday.

At around 1:30 a.m., Fairfax City and Fairfax County fire departments were called to 4505 Shirley Gate Road for a house fire. When they arrived they found the house's garage and second floor in flames. 

"Multiple hose lines were quickly put in service and the fire was brought under control within an hour," said Captain Joe Schumacher, Fairfax City battalion chief on duty that night.

Everyone in the home escaped the fire. No one was injured. Firefighters stayed on the scene until around 5:30 a.m.

Schumacher said the cause of the fire is believed to have been related to the fireplace and chimney. An investigation is ongoing.
