Drop Off Your Unwanted Prescriptions Saturday

Fairfax City participates in national effort to limit drug abuse, theft and misuse.

Fairfax Police will collect unused and unwanted drugs Saturday as part of a national Drug Take-Back Day.

Bring your over-the-counter and prescription drugs (pills, ointments, liquids) to the City of Fairfax Police Department between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Drugs must be in sealed containers.

Drop-offs are anonymous. No need to bring identification or prescription information.

"Disposal of medications is a national concern, with reports of prescription drug chemicals found in some water sources and leaching out of landfills," said Sgt. Joe Johnson of the City of Fairfax Police Department. "The drug take-back program affords citizens the opportunity to safely dispose of currently unneeded medications."

This is the Department of Drug Enforcement's fifth Drug Take-Back Day. The department started the program two years ago to curb the abuse, theft and misuse of prescription drugs.
