Crime Report: Employees of 3 Businesses Arrested for Selling Alcohol to Minors

Also, a local man discovers why it's a very bad idea to spit in a police officer's face.

The City of Fairfax Police Department appears to be cracking down in a major way on the selling of alcohol to minors.

On July 24, employees at three different Fairfax City businesses were arrested and charged with the selling of alcohol to a minor.

The first arrest occurred at 5:53 p.m. at the 7-Eleven store at 3965 Jermantown Road. An officer observed the cashier sell beer to an underage person without requesting identification. Pushpan Gnawali, 23, of Fairfax, was charged with selling alcohol to an underage person and released on a summons.

The second incident took place at the Mini Mart at 10800 Fairfax Blvd. Officers reported that, at 7:01 p.m., an officer observed the cashier sell beer to an underage person without requesting identification. Gujinder Singh Sandhu, 57, of Centreville, was charged with selling alcohol to a person under 21 years of age and released on a summons.

Lastly, at 8:33 p.m., officers performed an arrest at the CVS Pharmacy at 10390 Willard Way. Brentford Do, 18, of Fairfax, was charged with selling alcohol to an underage person and released on a summons after officers observed him fail to request identification from an underage person attempting to buy alcohol.

July 24 - Larceny: A woman reported that, at around 12:15 p.m. that day, she had apparently misplaced her wallet while at Panera Bread at 10702 Fairfax Blvd. and it had been taken by an unknown person or persons. The wallet contained cash, identification, and credit and debit cards. Several of the cards were subsequently used to make multiple unauthorized purchases.

July 24 - Shoplifting: At 4:27 p.m. an employee of Performance Bicycle reported that an unknown male subject had taken several items of merchandise from the store without paying and had left the area on a bicycle.

July 26 - Alcohol Violation Arrest: At midnight, an officer observed a female subject in the parking lot of Kutner Park on Jermantown Road in possession of beer and determined that she was under 21 year of age. The 18-year-old Oakton woman was charged with consuming alcohol while under 21 years of age and released on summons.

July 26 - Shoplifting Arrest: At 2:51 p.m., the manager of the 7-Eleven store at 3910 University Dr. reported that a male subject had taken a beer from the store without paying. The subject was located in the area and taken into custody. A 32-year-old Vienna man was transported to the Adult Detention Center, where he was charged with felony larceny, for a third or subsequent offense.

July 26 - Larceny: At 4:52 p.m., a resident of the 10000 Block of Peterson Street reported that two rings had been taken from the residence by an unknown person or persons sometime after 2:15 p.m. on July 25.

July 27 - Arrest for Assault and Vehicle Tampering: At 1:55 a.m., officers responded to the parking lot of the 29 Diner at 10536 Fairfax Blvd. on a report of a male subject attempting to get into a locked vehicle. The suspect attempted to leave the area and was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit, and subsequently intentionally spitting into an officer’s face. The 18-year-old Fairfax man was transported to the Adult Detention Center, where he was charged with felony assault on a police officer, vehicle tampering, resisting arrest and obstruction of justice. His bond was set at $5,000.

July 28 - Trespassing/Interdiction Violation Arrest: At 12:30 p.m. an officer observed a male subject sleeping on the sidewalk in front of the CVS store at 10390 Willard Way and gave him a written trespass warning, instructing him not to return to the property. At 4:52 p.m., the officer observed the subject sitting in front of the store with a beer. The 60-year-old male transient was transported to the Adult Detention Center and charged with possession of alcohol by an interdicted person and trespassing after being forbidden to do so. His bond was set at $1,000.
