Best Buy Assault Victim Identified As William Hays O'Brien

The Office of the Medical Examiner said Tuesday the 63-year-old died as a result of his injuries.

 

Fairfax City Police have identified the victim in an assault April 16 at the Best Buy on Main Street.

William Hays O'Brien, 63, of Fairfax City died April 26 at a local hospital.

His death has been ruled a homicide.

O'Brien called Fairfax City Police at 11:20 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16 to report he had been assaulted.

The alleged assailant then left in his vehicle, O'Brien told police. Paramedics were called and O'Brien was taken to the hospital, where he was treated until his death.

A family friend initially described the altercation to Patch as a result of "road rage." Fairfax City Police could not confirm that description at press time.

A friend of the family said Mr. O'Brien lived in the 10000 block of Main Street with his wife. 

"This is a tragedy," the family friend wrote in an e-mail to Patch. "Mr. O'Brien was a wonderful neighbor, a sweet man, and he was loved by his children dearly. He will be greatly missed. He was a great friend to my kids."

Funeral arrangements were not available at press time.
