Chaining Dogs in Fairfax City

Fairfax City resident and veterinarian Tim Parmly and Sue Bell of Homeward Trails Animal Rescue are working with our Fairfax City mayor and the City Council to pass an ordinance that restricts how many hours a dog can be chained. Currently a dog can be chained in Fairfax City 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This cruel practice means misery for the animal who must endure extreme weather, a severe lack of exercise and social interaction and a lifetime of boredom. Dogs on chains are also prone to great aggression and biting due to limited social interaction and exercise.

Please consider lending your support to passing an ordinance on tethering based on one that was passed in Alexandria in 2010 and Arlington in 2013. Passing the same in Fairfax City will allow us to join more than a dozen jurisdictions across Virginia who have similar laws.

Email Tim your name and address at: tparmly@vt.edu.

Your name will be added to a letter they plan to submit to the Mayor and Council members. You must be a resident of Fairfax City. Please encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same.
