Jerald “Jerry” Alexander Nine, Sr peacefully passed away on last Wednesday evening following a long illness. Jerry would have been 83 on his birthday in May. 

Jerry leaves his wife, Josephine “Jody” Nine, his sons and daughters-in-law: Jerald “Jerry” A Nine Jr and his wife Kimberly Nine and Robert “Buzz” Nine and his wife Diane Nine. Jerry is predeceased by his only brother Robert “Bob” Nine. 

Jerry also leaves his closest and most special friend for the last 20 years who wished to remain anonymous, and her children and grandchildren all of whom he considered as family. 

Jerry is survived by numerous grandchildren including Jerald “Trip” A Nine, III, Trip’s beloved wife Christen Nine, Kelly Nine, Chelsea Nine, Mackenzie Nine, Charles “Chet” Nine, and great grandson Daniel Nine. Jerry is also survived by an extended family of in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and their children. 

Jerry was a veteran who served in the Army as an infantry medic in the Korean War and also served as a Navy flight navigator during the Cuban Missile Crisis. For many years Jerry was a member of Army Navy Country club and an avid golfer. 

During his life Jerry was involved in his communities in many ways including Rotary (where he served as Fairfax Virginia Rotary Club President and was a Paul Harris Fellow), lay leadership at Truro Church in Fairfax , Boy Scouts, ham radio readiness networks, and many other civic organizations. 

Jerry was born in Dandridge Tennessee to Margaret and Joseph Nine and moved to Knoxville Tennessee at an early age. He graduated from Central High in Fountain City Tennessee where he played tuba in the band. After his Army service Jerry attended the University of Tennessee where he graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering, swam for the varsity swim team and was a member of the Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. He was a lifelong learner and earned a number of advanced degrees: a Masters in Electrical Engineering from AT&T Bell Labs, a MBA from Marymount University, Masters in Education from Old Dominion University, and was finishing his dissertation for his PHD from Capella University when he became ill. Jerry was also a certified commercial pilot, licensed ham radio operator, and licensed investment professional. 

In his long life Jerry enjoyed many professions including being an engineer, business owner, investment professional, and educator. Jerry taught middle school technology right up to his retirement at age 78. 

Jerry will be remembered fondly and greatly missed by both families. 

A Memorial service will be held this Friday, April 18th, at 1pm at Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home & Crematory, 4143 Dale Boulevard, Dale City, Virginia 22193 703-680-1234.
