James Hubert Strickler, 89

James Hubert Strickler, P.E., 89, of Fairfax, Virginia passed away on May 2, 2014. 

Born on February 16, 1925, in Luray, Virginia, he was the son of Hubert Monroe and Annie Elizabeth Shirley Strickler. He was a graduate of Luray High School, attended the Merchant Marine Academy during World War II, and graduated from Virginia Tech.

Mr. Strickler founded and served as president of Strickler Associates, a consulting engineering firm in Fairfax. Previously, he had sailed on merchant ships, worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority and served on the faculty at Virginia Tech. He was a member of Fairfax Presbyterian Church, past president of the Rotary Club of Fairfax, past member of the advisory council for The Salvation Army Fairfax and a member of the Country Club of Fairfax.

He is survived by his beloved wife Julia Ann Strickler; two daughters, Jo Ann Thoburn (David) of Vienna, Virginia, and Amy Ann Vaughan (Ben) of Madison, Alabama; two sisters, Lois Virginia Strickler Foley of Luray, Virginia, and Wilma Strickler Genet of Peterborough, New Hampshire; 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Funeral private.

A public memorial service will be held for Mr. Strickler at Fairfax Presbyterian Church, 10723 Main Street, Fairfax, Virginia 22030, on Friday, May 9, 2014, at 1pm.
