Missed George Mason University’s Fall Deadline? Here’s Your Second Chance.

If you missed George Mason University's fall 2012 application deadline, there's a second chance to start working on you bachelor's degree this fall that you might not have thought about.

It’s that time of year again, when students are starting to get their dorm assignments, finalize class schedules, and enjoy those last few weeks of summer before starting fall classes at local college and schools all over the U.S. Are you sitting at home, wishing you were one of them?

If you missed your chance to apply for fall 2012 classes, believe it or not, it’s not too late. There’s another way to get started on your degree without waiting and getting a whole year behind. And it’s not hard either. It’s just a degree pathway that most students overlook—taking advantage of a school’s transfer partners.

What Are Transfer Partners
I work at Ivy Bridge College, George Mason’s online transfer partner, and one of the questions students ask us the most is what exactly transfer partners are. The answer is simple—transfer partners are community and online colleges that schools like George Mason University have agreements with that map the transfer of college credits. That means, if you enroll with one of George Mason’s transfer partners you can take your general education courses with the partner school and be assured that your credits will work towards your bachelor’s degree when you’re ready to move on to George Mason.

How Can They Help You Get Into a Top College
Schools like to accept students from a transfer partner because they know and trust the quality of the partner school’s academic programs, and have already done the hard work of mapping the transfer of credits. At Ivy Bridge for instance, as long as our students take the courses that are laid out for them and meet George Mason’s minimum 3.0 GPA requirement, they’re guaranteed to get in. And our college coaches help by telling students what classes to take so they know exactly what they need to do to transfer in.

Your Second Chance to Start Class This Fall
Most community and online colleges have rolling enrollment, unlike larger four-year schools that typically have one application deadline for fall classes. So even if you missed George Mason’s January application deadline for fall 2012 classes, you can get a second chance by enrolling with one of their transfer partners, starting your classes with them, and then transferring later. It’s the same for colleges and universities all over the U.S.

Starting at a two-year program and then transferring to a four-year university is a time-honored way to save on your overall college costs, but what it’s also a great way to get into the college you want. If you missed your first chance to start college this fall, don’t miss your second!
