Composting in the Cafeteria at Daniels Run Elementary

Finished compost will be used in the vegetable garden.

From the Daniels Run Elementary School on Facebook:

Yesterday, Daniels Run had a successful start to a whole-school initiative, “Composting in the Cafeteria!” Previously, students learned about the importance of composting to help reduce waste. Since the finished compost will be used in the vegetable garden and the outdoor classroom, it will return nutrients to the land and contribute to watershed health by controlling run-off, fertilizing naturally and providing structure to the soil. Students will place their fruit and vegetable scraps in the red buckets every Wednesday, and then 4th graders will put the scraps in the composting tumblers.
