Cannabis (marijuana) is a historically illegal drug widely used for recreational and medical purposes. A hotly debated hypothesis exists that trying marijuana increases the probability that users will eventually escalate to “harder” drugs. How does the danger of marijuana usage compare with alcohol and tobacco? What are the pros and cons of legalizing it? What are the results of over three decades of the “War on Drugs”? What might be the economic, public health, public safety and human rights implications of legalizing marijuana in the United States? Note: There will be no free joints or marijuana cookies.
Criminal justice has been an important volunteer interest for Bob Bohall in the years since he retired from the Economic Research Service of the USDA. His talk concerning the case for legalizing marijuana is part of the Science, Reason and Religion Forum at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fairfax. The forum will be in the Chapel of the Program Building. All are welcome.
