UPDATED: Watch for Flooding, Severe Thunderstorms Tonight

NWS has issued a flash flood and thunderstorm warning for Fairfax City.

UPDATE (6:44 p.m.): Flood warning canceled. Flash flood (until 9:45 p.m.) and severe thunderstorm (until 8 p.m.) warnings now in effect. Winds up to 60 mph.

The National Weather Service has issue a flood warning for the Northern Virginia area through 9 tonight. A flood warning means flooding is imminent or has been reported.

Under a warning, streams will rise slowly and flash flooding is not expected, but residents should take necessary precautions. Residents in low areas should be prepared to take action in case flooding occurs.
