Traffic Victim Mourned as Wife, Mother

Hong died after an accident on Old Dominion Drive.

Sow-Hoong Hon, a George Mason University graduate and Leesburg resident, who died as the result of a traffic accident last week on Old Dominion Road, was a wife and mother who worked at Covance Laboratories.

Covance is located at the corner of Route 7 and Towlston Road in Vienna. Sow-Hoong Hon, 42,  was driving  a 1999 Honda Accord northbound on Bellview Road shortly before 1:30 p.m. The Honda failed to stop at the stop sign before entering the eastbound lanes of Old Dominion Drive, where a 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser, struck the driver’s door of the Honda,  Fairfax County police said. The accident occurred not far from Covance.

Police would not release the name of the 50-year-old McLean woman, who was driving the Land Cruiser. There were no charges in the case, police said.

Hon was born in Malaysia according to her obituary on the Loudoun Funeral Chapel website.

"She was a beautiful, wonderful and marvelous daughter, wife, mother, sister, relative and friend," her obituary said.

Survivors include her parents, Kok-Kee Hon and Chai-Ling of Alexandria, VA; her husband Alan Edward Kulaga of Leesburg; and their son James Edward Kulaga; her brother, Mun-Wai Hon of Centreville, VA; her sister, Sophie Hon of Alexandria, VA.

Her family received friends and loved ones Sunday at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel in Leesburg. The family asks that memorial contributions be sent to Alan Kulaga, her husband,  for the benefit of their son  James Kulaga, care of First Virginia Community Bank 7900 Sudley Road, Suite 100 Manassas, VA 20109.

Internment will be held privately. Hon’s obituary can be seen on the chapel's website.
