  • "Birds of a Feather" at New School of Northern Virginia. This new play by Marc Acito is a comedy about nature and nurture. Grab a seat in the audience and watch two famous New York stories, all animal characters played by actors, including the bird-brained humans! Opening night, Friday, 8 p.m. Saturday 2 and 8 p.m., Sunday 2 p.m. Tickets $15-25. .
  • Pack Backpacks for Needy Students. Pender United Methodist Church, 12401 Alder Woods, 5 p.m. Free barbecue chicken dinner for volunteers. stuff backpacks by catching the full story.

  • Saturday Old Town Cruise In. Show off your classic, custom, antique, street rod, or muscle car every Saturday this summer in the parking lot behind Joy Unlimited.
  • Mutt Love Adoption Event. Puppy meet-and-greet at PETCO (across from PVI) from 12-3 p.m. Get a sneak peak of the dogs up for adoption by clicking here.
  • Waste Minimization Workshop. George Mason University's Sustainability Institute offers this free information session on reducing and reusing to manage waste. Learn how waste reduction techniques like smart purchasing decisions, reducing, reusing, and recycling waste can help save natural resources, energy, disposal space and cost, and minimize pollution risks. Green Acres, 10-11:30 a.m.
  • Neighborhood Plant Clinic by Fairfax County Master Gardeners. Lawncare and gardening tips from local plant enthusiasts. Fairfax City Regional Library, 10 a.m.
  • First Blood, Battle of Blackburn’s Ford. Drop by the Civil War Interpretive Center at Historic Blenheim to discuss this local battle with historian Mark Trbovich. Blenheim, 2 p.m.

Sunday

  • The Community Farmer's Market. Stock up on fresh produce and local goods at this weekly market. Sponsored by the Downtown Fairfax Coalition. Parking lot at the corner of North Street and Old Lee Highway, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
