Rescue a Dog: Tammy, Becky, Bear and More

Dogs for adoption in and around Fairfax City.

Looking for a family pet, running buddy or companion? These dogs want the same, they just need the right person to drop by and show them a little love.

Take Tammy for instance. She hasn't experienced the best life has to offer. Tammy was picked up by Animal Control just before she gave birth to a litter of puppies. The Humane Society of Fairfax County stepped in to help her find a forever home. She's striking with a brown, black and white coat. A beagle/pointer mix, Tammy is a medium-sized 1-year-old. She is shy (no agression, though!) and needs someone to trust.

And then there's Bear, a laborador retriever mix. Humane Society volunteers describe him as sweet, gentle and good with kids and other animals. He is housebroken, enjoys walks and knows commands. Bear's family gave him up because they didn't have the means to care for him. He didn't do anything wrong. It's unfair to make him spend his days away from what he's meant for, to love a new family.

Basset Hound mix Buddy loves to go for long walks. At 7 years old, Buddy's looking for a more laid back mommy or daddy. He's good with other dogs and kids.

Another old soul, Auggie, needs someone to love and cuddle. This 7-year-old basset hound is good with other dogs and would make a great second addition to your pet family. Stop by the PETCO in Fairfax City (across from Paul VI Catholic High School) on Saturday from 12-3 p.m. to meet him.

Nikki was born in August. Still very young, this foxhound mix puppy needs someone who will be patient in teaching her how to live happily with her family. Her perfect family would continue training her to walk well on a leash and basic manners. Come see her at PETCO this Saturday.

The 2-year-old labrador retriever/pit bull/boxer mix seems like an all-round perfect dog for a family. Becky's 40 pounds and friendly with other dogs, kids and even cats. She walks well on a leash and is smart, ideal for more training. Check her out Saturday at PETCO.

Sweetie didn't have a great life before she found her way into the kind arms of Mutt Love volunteers. She was found starving, a stray living a difficult, loveless life. One of Sweetie's ears was cut in half and her body holds hunter's markings. Volunteers believe she was mistreated as the 12-year-old beagle mix gets worried if she doesn't trust you. It takes a little bit of warming up, but once she's on your side she can't stop showing you love.

Presley's family gave him up (along with his buddy, Riley) due to unforeseen circumstances. This 8- or 9-year-old foxhound/hound mix is housebroken, well-trained and used to having another doggie companion. Be sure to check out Riley's listing. It'd be great to adopt them both out together, but not necessary. Meet them both at PETCO this Saturday.

Mutt Love will work with you to find the right pet for your home and family. Find out more by emailing adopt@muttloverescue.org.
