Pack Your Patience: Lots of Major Lane Closings This Week

Overnight lane closings on Beltway, Dulles Access Road.

Watch out for these lane closures and traffic changes this week.

  • I-495 North Lane Closures at Route 123

 

Multiple lane closures on northbound I-495 at Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) are set to continue next week as subway crews construct the tracks over the Capital Beltway. The three right thru lanes will be closed Wednesday through Thursday, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
 
 Lanes will begin to taper down near Route 7 (Leesburg Pike). The two left lanes will be closed in both directions Friday from 10:30 p.m. to 7 a.m.
 
All ramps to and from Route 123 will remain open.

Motorists should exert extreme caution and expect delays if passing through this area. Police will be onsite to direct traffic.

  • Leesburg Pike (Route 7) West from Westpark Dr. to Spring Hill Road

Two lanes closed Tuesday through Friday nights for utility work. Expect intermittent road closures of up to 15 minutes after midnight.

  • Leesburg Pike (Route 7) East from Dulles Toll Road (Route 267) to Westwood Center Drive

Two lanes closed Tuesday through Saturday nights for paving.

  • Leesburg Pike (Route 7) East from Spring Hill Road to Gosnell Road

Right lane closed Tuesday through Friday nights for ground work.
 

  • Eastbound Tysons Boulevard Between Galleria Drive and Route 123

The eastbound lanes of Tysons Boulevard will be closed near Galleria Drive to Route 123 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday for pier and station work.

  • REMINDER: Flagging Operation at Magarity/Olney Intersection Continues  

Flaggers will be directing thru traffic at the Magarity Road/Olney Road intersection in the Pimmit Hills neighborhood as crews continue restoration of the curb line and gutter, and installation of a new storm drainage pipe.
 
This work will reduce thru traffic to one lane on each road from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9:30 a.m. to noon on Friday.
 

Private entrances and driveways will be accessible at all times. Signage will be installed warning drivers that the flaggers and one-lane traffic are ahead. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution when traveling through this intersection.

  • Leesburg Pike (Route 7) East at I-495

On or about June 12, the eastbound lanes of traffic on Route 7 will shift to the right to a new bridge span over I-495. Motorists should expect overnight delays approaching the interchange as crews make final preparations for the shift. Once all traffic is shifted, night work will begin to demolish the old center bridge span of Route 7. 

Motorists should expect overnight lane closures and detours on Route 7 and in both directions on I-495 starting around 9:30 p.m. each night.  Demolition work is expected to continue through mid-July, weather permitting.

  • I-495 South from Route 7 to W&OD Trail

Last Sunday night, all four lanes of I-495 south, Outer Loop, shifted to the right near Route 7 to the W&OD Trail Overpass.
