Main Street Block Closed Tonight for Paving Work

Paving work on Main Street at East Street and University Drive will close a block in Old Town Fairfax tonight.

From 8 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m., DA Foster paving crews will mill and apply final surface asphalt to the roadway as part of the restoration work following underground utility installations. Note the following traffic closures during this timeframe:

-- The East Street and University Drive block along Main Street will be closed.

-- Traffic will be detoured to North Street and then back to Main Street.

-- Flagmen will be stationed at both ends of the road closure and access for emergency vehicles will be provided.

-- Pedestrians will be able to access all buildings on this block while construction is taking place.

-- Parking at the gravel lot at the southwest corner of the Main St/East St intersection will be limited since this space will be used as a staging area for equipment and materials.
