Here's your guide to weekday events in and around the city limits:

MONDAY

  • Planning Commission Meeting. Read the agenda. Watch it online here. City Hall, 7 p.m.
  • School Board Meeting. Click here for a list of topics to be discussed. City Hall, 7:30 p.m.
  • Astronomy Observing Session. Get a good look at the stars using George Mason University's telescopes. Research Hall, GMU at 8:30 p.m. Weather-permitting.
  • 4th Annual Black & White Charity Dinner. The Wine House hosts this five-course, Spanish-themed dinner. There's a silent auction to benefit Trekking for Kids. Wine House, 7 p.m.

TUESDAY

  • City Council Meeting. Council members will discuss Fairfax City's Comprehensive Plan with planning commission members. Read the agenda. Click here to watch the meeting online. City Hall, 7 p.m.
  • Back to School Night for K-2. Providence and Daniels Run elementary schools will host their back-to-school nights for parents of students in grades K-2 at 7 p.m.
  • Book Sale. City of Fairfax Regional Library offers a library-benefiting book sale throughout September. Find details about the sale near the information desk. 
  • FCPA Farmer's Market. Fresh produce and local goods. Van Dyck Park, 8 a.m.

WEDNESDAY

  • Back to School Night for 7th Grade. Parents of seventh graders at Sidney Lanier Middle School can learn more about their kids' learning opportunities starting at 7 p.m.
  • Christiana Trenum. This singer/songwriter performs at Epicure Cafe. Click here to preview her music. Doors open at 8 p.m.

THURSDAY

  • Back to School Night for Providence Grades 3-6. Providence Elementary School will host its back-to-school night for parents of students in grades 3-6 at 7 p.m.
  • Preschool Storytime. Kids 3-5 with accompanying adult are invited to join this storytelling group for stories, songs, fingerplays and other activites. City of Fairfax Regional Library, 10:30 a.m. 

FRIDAY

  • The Congress. Catch a live show at the Auld Shebeen. Click here to get a preview of the band's tunes. Doors open at 9:30 p.m.
  • Bingo. Fairfax City Volunteer Fire Department hosts bingo every Friday night. Drop by and play for a good cause. Fire Station No. 3, 7:15 p.m.
