UPDATE: DOM Kills Power Near PVI to Fix Broken Pole

Dominion predicts an all-nighter for work crews.

UPDATE (11:35 p.m.): An accident on Fairfax Boulevard shortly after 4 p.m. today damaged a power line pole in front of Papa John's Pizza and Paul VI Catholic High School. Dominion workers shut off the power at 9 p.m. to repair the pole. Fairfax City Police set up cones to direct traffic past the handful of Dominion repair trucks parked on the side of the road.

UPDATE (10:19 p.m.): Dominion's Outage Center says 167 city residents are without power tonight.

Damaged power lines on Fairfax Boulevard could mean an eight-hour long power outage for some Fairfax City residents tonight.

Fairfax Heights and Fairchester residents lost power at 9 p.m. Dominion expects the outage to last most of the night, possibly until 5 a.m. Friday.

The outage came after a traffic accident on Fairfax Boulevard this afternoon damaged power lines. Dominion is working to repair the lines.
