UDPATE 10/14: A driver didn't stop in time while traveling west on Fairfax Boulevard, rear-ending another and starting a chain reaction that involved two other vehicles, according to MPO Lynn Coulter, Fairfax City Police.
Fairfax City sent out an emergency alert to subscribers at around 4 p.m. Thursday, warning drivers to find an alternate route.
No injuries were reported.
