Mason Student Gets Unique Internship

Mason student, Dan Montero, gets to intern at a new music venue in Silver Spring, MD with some cool perks!

Ever had dreams of the big stage? Perhaps, being able to meet one of your favorite pop or rock stars? An internship at the Fillmore in Silver Spring, MD could be your stepping stone to success. The Fillmore opened in Sept. 2011 as one of Maryland’s top music venues catering to fans of diverse music from electronic groups like Bassnector or pop/rock groups like Paramore. You can even catch heavy metal acts like Stone Sour or go on a local night and see what the local scene has to offer. One of Mason’s very own, Dan Montero, a senior studying Communications, is currently interning in the V.I.P. services at the brand new music venue during his last semester here at Mason.

As a member of the V.I.P. services, Dan says the job can be challenging at times as it is marketing intensive. A lot of his duties include contacting local businesses to set up events for after the shows. Sometimes artist will throw ‘after parties’ and Dan helps figure out what location will work best. Also, Dan assists with marketing the V.I.P. seating at the club where fans can pay a little more for premium seating and a view of the stage. It’s not all work and no play, however, Dan recently met members of Imagine Dragons, Lee Bruce, and the new singer of Drowning Pool.

The venue is only about 30 minutes away from Fairfax, which is about the same distance as the legendary 930 Club located in D.C. Their contact information is located on their website at www.fillmoresilverspring.com if interested in applying for an internship or general information.

As Dan puts it, "it was not too difficult to get the internship." It never hurts to try if you think this may be something you’re interested in.

Upcoming events at the Fillmore include Bassnector (5/4-5/5), Paramore (5/18), How to Destroy Angels (Trent Reznor – 4/30), Killswitch Engage (June), and Korn (May).
