Fairfax High School Pyramid Joins Together to Prevent Bullying

Schools in the Fairfax High School (FHS) Pyramid joined together in November to raise awareness for bullying prevention. All four city schools; FHS, Lanier Middle, Daniels Run Elementary School and Providence Elementary School held a different awareness event throughout the week under the theme, "Stand By Me". The goal of the week was to provide students with information and strategies about what bullying is and how to handle themselves in a bullying situation.

The week kicked off in a sea of blue as all schools encouraged kids to wear the bright royal blue of Fairfax High. Teachers and students alike took an anti-bullying oath and were given bracelets with the words "Stand By Me" to show they took the pledge. FHS teachers wore special blue t-shirts declaring FHS a bully-free school.

At FHS, school counselors worked with leadership students who made announcements and provided information during lunch about strategies to handle bullying. FHS teachers signed teacher versions of the Bully Prevention Oath and posted it on their doors. Lanier students held a peaceful problem solving day with students wearing peace signs to school. Providence held activities such as 'Mix it Up at Lunch' which encouraged kids to sit with someone new and 'I've Got Your Back' day with kids wearing their shirt backwards. Daniels Run students wore school colors purple and green on Friday and took an oath pledging they will treat others with respect and would stand up for classmates.
