Walmart Prepares Big Changes for Bloom Shopping Center

The store will be 91,000 square feet.

Most of the changes coming to the Bloom shopping center with the addition of a new Walmart won't be visible from the outside.

Walmart applied for and received a number of building permits for their new store, opening in the old Home Expo space next to Bloom. The store's location will rest just outside the city limits in Fairfax County.

  • Replace the store's air conditioning units
  • Install new fire alarm and sprinkler systems
  • Install new plumbing fixtures (sinks, toilets and water fountains)
  • Wire the building for closed circuit TV

A new freestanding sign and two building-mounted signs will be the only changes visible outside the store.

This Walmart will be smaller than its supercenter neighbor at Fair Lakes Shopping Center. At 91,000 square feet, it's slated to be the 13th discount version Walmart in Virginia.

Though managers from Walmart Super Centers in Fair Lakes and Burke confirmed the new Walmart would be opening this fall, they wished to remain anonymous. They were unable to come up with an exact date for the opening.
