Fairfax City Funeral Home Accused of Burying Wrong Body

Family realized mistake when they saw wrong body in casket during funeral.

A local family was outraged when they said they found the wrong body in the casket during a loved one's funeral last week.

WJLA reports Jim McLean of Northern Virginia was burying his 80-year-old father at a local chapel, with the help of Everly Funeral Home in Fairfax City, when they realized it was the wrong body in the casket.

McLean's father, Jim Chapman, was a twin, and his father's twin immediately noticed, when the casket was opened, that it was not his twin brother in there.

According to WJLA, when the family contacted Everly Funeral Home to ask them to address the mistake, the toe tag revealed that it was indeed not Jim Chapman in the casket—and what's worse, Chapman had already been buried in Winchester.

The family told WJLA they were told by Everly Funeral Home that a judge will have to order the exhumation of Jim Chapman's body in Winchester in order for the family to get him back.
