City's Newest Salon Draws Regional Talent

Talented beauty artists from Washington and as far as California are ready to make you beautiful at Fairfax City's new Salon Simis.

Fairfax City's newest salon, Salon Simis, promises customers you can find everything you need to make you beautiful, all under one roof.

It also offers beauty for your eyes - Salon Simis doubles as an art gallery, featuring local artist exhibits on its walls, thanks to a partnership with the Fairfax Art League.

Ahmet Sim, the salon's owner and a talented hairdresser himself, couldn't be more proud of his new business, or more happy that its located in his beloved Fairfax City.

Sim, who has lived down the street from his new salon, located at 10090 Main St., for years, previously worked for a salon in McLean for roughly 14 years.

"In my 14 years there, the salon changed owners three times," he said.

When he finally decided to leave his former employer, he said, "It's time to have my own place. I should open something here [in Fairfax City]."

Last month, that dream came true. Sim's new salon, next door to Capital One Bank and just blocks from Old Town, is now up and running and Sim said he can't wait for more locals to find out everything it offers.

Sim said, those who come to the salon for hair, nails or eyebrow shaping won't be disappointed, because he has recruited only the very best to his salon.

Josh Brennan, one of his hair stylists, worked for many years in Sacramento, Calif., where he was highly sought-after, Sim said.

After transferring to the east coast, he has been working in some of the best salons in Georgetown, until he came to Salon Simis to help Sim get it up and running.

Hanife Brennan, who offers nail services and eyebrow threading - and soon, in the next couple of weeks, waxing services, Sim says - also comes from having worked at two salons in Georgetown, where she was voted the number one eyebrow artist in all of Washington.

"She has a good following, from everywhere," Sim said of Hanife.

In keeping with the commitment to hire the best local talent, Salon Simis' social media manager is a recent graduate of nearby George Mason University.

The Salon Simis team is offering specials for all new customers - for example, a manicure plus pedicure with Hanife is currently just $45, and new customers can also take $50 off their first hair color appointment as well.

Ahmet said, soon the salon will be hosting parties with the changing of artist exhibitions every three months as well, with cocktails and other refreshments and the chance to meet the artists and purchase their works.

The debut exhibition, up now, features the works of Becky Kim.
