'Little Big Things' Debuts at New Gallery Location

Gallery premier provides an opportunity for the Fairfax art community to share their work and ideas.

Artists, students and spectators gathered at the for the premiere of the “Little Big Things” collection on Wednesday evening. The show featured small-scale works by local artists.

“Putting together a show is kind of like assembling a puzzle,” said Adam Lister, the owner of the gallery. “Most of the work in the show is local, they’re a lot of great artists in the area.” 

Lister is also the head art teacher and director of the “All Art” program.

The Adam Lister gallery is a focal point for the art community of Fairfax. The gallery offers educational resources, and is connected to various art programs in the area.

“It’s nice to be a part of the show. I think it’s a really strong collection,” said featured artist Tamryn McDermott, an advanced placement art teacher at . Tamryn’s work included two encaustic, or hot wax, paintings that have been featured in previous shows.

“I’m really pleased with the new pieces, especially the glass. I’m blown away,” said Angie Griffith, a senior at West Potomic High School. The featured glass pieces were created by Robert Kincheloe and Lister.

Aside from having work displayed in galleries, Kincheloe noted that social media is now a powerful tool in the art world.

“Social networking makes it easy for an artist to market their work,” said Kincheloe. “Social networking provides an environment to share ideas. It also time-stamps an artist’s progress on a technique.” Kincheloe uses his website and social media to share his glasswork.
