Mary Karr, a distinguished poet and author of the memoirs The Liar’s Club, Cherry, and Lit, receives the first annual Mary Roberts Rinehart Award, honoring a distinguished woman writer of nonfiction whose work exemplifies the independent-minded, intellectually advanced, important life and work of Rinehart herself, one of the most popular U.S. writers of the first half of the 20th century.
