An Evening Of Mystery

On Friday, September 23, at 5:30 p.m.  — just prior to King’s appearance at the Fall for the Book Festival — a group of local and regional mystery and suspense novelists will take part in a panel discussion in Harris Theater on Mason’s Fairfax, Virginia campus. Participants include:

  • Donna Andrews is the author of the Meg Langslow mystery series, the first novel of which, Murder with Peacocks, won the Malice Domestic/St. Martin’s Press Best First Traditional Mystery contest and went on to win the Agatha, Anthony, Barry, and Romantic Times awards for best first novel and the Lefty award for the funniest mystery of 1999. The latest book in the series, The Real Macaw, has just been released, and Andrews is also the author of the four-book Turing Hopper series, which began with the Agatha Award-winning You’ve Got Murder.
  • G.M. Malliet’s debut novel, Death of a Cozy Writer, earned a Malice Domestic grant, won the Agatha Award and was chosen by Kirkus Reviews as one of the Best Books of 2008, in addition to being nominated for the Anthony and Macavity Awards, among other honors. Subsequent books in the series include Death and the Lit Chick and Death at the Alma Mater. This month, Malliet launches a new series with Wicked Autumn: A Max Tudor Novel.
  • Alan Orloff is the author of Diamonds for the Dead, which was an Agatha Award finalist for Best First Novel, and of the Last Laff Mystery series, including Killer Routine, released earlier this year, and Deadly Campaign, forthcoming in 2012.
  • Marcia Talley is the Agatha and Anthony award-winning author of ten mysteries featuring survivor and sleuth Hannah Ives. Talley’s first mystery, Sing It To Her Bones, won the Malice Domestic grant and was nominated for an Agatha award. Nine Hannah Ives mysteries followed that early success, including Independent Mystery Booksellers Association bestsellers In Death’s Shadow, This Enemy Town, and Through The Darkness, all set in Maryland. The latest book in the series is A Quiet Death.

At this event as well, attendees have the chance to win the last remaining tickets to King’s appearance later that night. Both the mystery writers panel and King’s appearance are sponsored by Mystery Writers of America, which named King a Grand Master in 2007, the pinnacle of achievement in the mystery field.
