Moms, Grab Your Sons (and a Tent) - It's Camping Time!

To kick off Mother's Day weekend, the City will hold a festive Mother-Son campout at Van Dyck Park Friday evening.

Yes, Mother's Day means (hopefully) some pampering for Mom, with maybe a card and some flowers and much-needed R&R.

However, it's also a great opportunity for quality mother-son time and bonding.

Me, I plan to get my bonding time with my little guy in this Friday night at the City of Fairfax's Mother-Son Campout at Van Dyck Park!

The Parks & Recreation department has packed a whole lot of fun into this event.

Arrive anytime after 5 p.m., with your tent and sleeping bags. Don't worry about dinner, because your campout organizers have it all taken care of.

As the night gets underway, there will be the roasting of smores, storytelling around the fire, and telescopes to see the night stars and planets with.

In the morning, breakfast is served!

The cost to register is just $25 per camper. Contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 703-385-7858.

And if you're coming, be sure to look out for me, your Patch editor, Jennifer van der Kleut, and my oldest son Connor, who's 5 (pictured above helping Mommy cook the feast last Thanksgiving). I'll be sure to wear my Patch baseball cap and hoodie so you can spot me!

Are you coming to the Mother-Son campout this Friday? If not, what are your Mother's Day plans? Tell us in the comments below.
