On June 4, the City of Fairfax begins construction of the Old Town Fairfax central park.
This will involve temporarily closing one parking lot: the gravel lot at the southwest corner of the intersection of Route 236/Main Street and East Street. The former Amoco lot will close June 4 and is expected to re-open June 30, in time for the city's annual Independence Day Celebration.
This portion of the project includes the block bounded by Main Street, University Drive, North Street and Old Lee Highway. The project also will include some street improvements and a pedestrian barricade at the southeast corner of the Route 123/Chain Bridge Road-North Street intersection.
Please note: only one parking lot is affected by this construction, and the lot is schedule to re-open June 30. The gravel parking lot adjacent to Old Town Hall will remain open until early July.
Constuction of the park is expected to be from July 5 through mid-December. Click here for more information on the park project.
The city's construction plans will keep surface parking available in Old Town Fairfax during this time. Parking will remain available to the public in the Old Town Village parking garage, accessible from Route 123/Chain Bridge Road and University Drive.
