Heavy Rain Timeline: When Will It Stop in Fairfax?

Flash flood watch for the region through most of Friday.

As the rain started falling Thursday afternoon, forecasters predicted that this storm wasn't leaving anytime soon.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 8 p.m., with a flash flood watch beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday and lasting for 24 hours.

The heaviest rain is expected to fall late Thursday and into Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service. Rainfall amounts across the region were expected to reach 2 inches to 4 inches.

The forecast from the National Weather Service predicts showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2 p.m. Friday, then a slight chance of showers before 4 p.m.
