Yhomi also believes in supporting her community and encourages her daughters to follow in her footsteps. To that end, her Jazzercise fitness class will host a fundraiser for locally-based Alternative House on May 11 at Mott Community Center, 12111 Braddock Road, Fairfax at 5:00 p.m.

Yhomi’s team of certified Jazzercise fitness instructors will teach easy-to-learn, jazz-dance based moves set to today’s hottest music. Attendees will participate in a safe and effective workout that feels more like a dance party than exercise.

Instructors will demonstrate both high-intensity, high-impact moves as well as high-intensity, low-impact moves. All fitness levels are welcome.

The cost to attend is $20. Tickets can be purchased at the door the evening of the event. Refreshments, raffle prizes, and a photo booth will add to the fun.

All proceeds from this event will go directly to benefit Alternative House.

Founded in 1972, Alternative House offers children and families counseling, shelter, and neighborhood-centered support.

According to Executive Director Judith Dittman, the number of young people seeking help at the Emergency Shelter for Teenagers is up 30 percent over pre-recession numbers and requests for food and clothing are up more than 50 percent.

Alternative House Board President and realtor Lisa Moffett is one of Yhomi’s Jazzercise customers. She brought up the idea of tying Jazzercise’s “give back” philosophy to doing a fundraiser for Alternative House. Yhomi and her team of instructors enthusiastically endorsed the idea.

Yhomi’s team includes Maria Rink, Jenn Snell, B Campbell, Michelle Negrelli, and Deborah Corsi.

Local business owners are also getting involved by providing raffle prizes. To date, the event has attracted sponsorship from Rodan + Fields Cosmetics, Jazzercise, ImageSpeak Photography, and Great American Restaurants.

Attendees should wear comfy workout clothes and shoes and bring a bottle of water.

Yhomi noted that the event takes place one day before Mother’s Day.

“This is perfect for moms and daughters to have a fun girl’s night out together; a really cool and healthy way to celebrate Mother’s Day!”
