Gas Prices Surge: Find the Cheapest Gas in Your Area

Fourth of July travel is coming with higher prices at the pump.

As Americans pack up their suitcases, load up their vehicles and head to the lake or the ocean this long July 4th weekend, many will be wondering where to get the cheapest gas in their area.

Gas prices have been steadily climbing and are now the highest they've been since 2008, according to AAA. On their website they state: "the national average price of gas in July will range from $3.60-$3.70 per gallon."

The Washington Post notes that gas prices typically peak in June and head south toward the Fourth of July. But not this year.

So what's jacking up the prices? Michael Green, spokesman for AAA, attributes it to the unrest in Iraq. In an NBC News report he stated: "It's that fear in the marketplace that rebels could take over is what's driving up the cost of oil and gasoline prices here at home."

AAA estimates that over thirty million Americans will drive more than fifty miles during the Independence Day weekend, despite the high cost of gas. If you are one those drivers, you'll want to know where the cheapest gas is in your area.
