Crime Report: Local Businesses Targeted in Electric Bill Scam

Plus, several vehicles throughout the City were broken into this week.

Around 12:25 p.m. on Tuesday, the owner of Victoria's Cakery in Old Town reported that an unknown person had called, claiming to be from the power company, to say that the business' electric bill had not been paid.

The person on the phone said that, unless a money card was purchased immediately and the number given over the phone, the business' power would be shut off within the next 30 minutes.

The owner complied with the suspect's demand, but after a subsequent search of the business' financial records, the owner discovered that, in fact, the bill had been paid.
