A Different Way to Spend Your New Year's Eve in Old Town Fairfax

Pacers in Fairfax City has an idea for you.

Still looking for something fun to do on New Year's Eve, but don't feel like the usual crowded (and likely expensive) party or bash?

Pacers running store in Old Town Fairfax has a interesting alternative for you—the Fairfax Four-Miler.

"Grab your friends and family and join us in the heart of Old Town Fairfax for the Fairfax Four-Miler and end your year on a (runner’s) high note!" Pacers staff says on their website.

Plus, there's still time to get dressed up and head out for the new year's countdown after the race.

The race begins at 6 p.m. near the store, at the corner of Main Street and University Drive downtown Fairfax. Then, the course will wind through Old Town and George Mason University, wrapping up with a "fast downhill finish" right back at the store.

Previous records for the race include Will Viviani's time of 19:46 and Mindy Sullivan's time of 22:26, both in 2010.

The registration fee is $40. Packets, which include a race bib, timing tag, safety pins and "a rockin' sweatshirt," can be picked up from Pacers, at 10427 North St., on Monday, Dec. 30 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on race day between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. to 5:55 p.m. (no pickup between 3-4:30 p.m.).

A bag check will be offered at Old Town Hall across from Pacers from 5 to 8 p.m.

Hot pizza and beverages will be served to all participants after the race.

For more information, visit the Fairfax Four-Miler page on the Pacers website.

Does this sound like a way you'd want to spend your New Year's Eve? What are your plans this year? Tell us in the comments.
