Flash Flood Watch Through Tuesday Night for Northern Virginia

A flash flood watch is in effect for Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C. and several parts of Maryland through late tonight.

Several areas experienced heavy rain Tuesday, and the National Weather Service in Sterling reports, “There is the possibility that more heavy rain will fall with thunderstorms this afternoon. Any storms that form will have the potential to produce flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.”

Drivers who encounter large on area roadways should not attempt to drive through them. Fire and rescue units in Prince George's County Tuesday morning made several swift water rescues as drivers commuting to work got stuck in rising waters. Water just six inches deep can stall a vehicle.

There is a chance for thunderstorms every day this week. Daytime high temperatures will be in the mid- to upper 80s Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and humidity will be high. The high temperature Wednesday could top 90 degrees.

Nighttime lows will be in the upper 60s.
