VIU's School of Education Announces its CLLC 2014 Honorees

Fairfax, VA – March 21, 2014

The School of Education at Virginia International University (VIU) announces its honorees for the inaugural Conference on Language, Learning, and Culture (CLLC) on April 11-12, 2014.  Kevin Martin, the conference organizer explained, “These three honorees were selected because they represent the best of the best in regard to issues concerning language, learning, and culture.” The honorees include:

Dr. Jennifer Leeman: AWARD FOR PRAXIS

Dr. Leeman’s dedication to the fields of applied linguistics, sociolinguistics, and language education epitomizes the CLLC’s theme by contributing to innovations and social action at the intersection of language, learning, and culture. Dr. Leeman currently serves as an Associate Professor for the Spanish Department at George Mason University.  More information on Dr. Leeman’s work can be found at: http://spanish.gmu.edu/people/jleeman.

The Global Language Network: AWARD FOR COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTION

The Global Language Network (GLN)’s innovative and inspiring efforts to make high-quality instruction in such a wide variety of languages and cultures accessible to the DC-area community represent the innovative nature that CLLC encompasses.  GLN is a DC-based 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization whose mission is to provide opportunities to learn any language at a minimal cost. Mr. George Rado: THE AWARD FOR SERVICE

Mr. Rado’s contribution to the field and dedication to students over the years have not gone unnoticed.  His unequaled passion and enthusiasm for language teaching and professional development epitomize the conference’s theme.  He currently serves as the Executive Director for Capital English Academy. All honorees will be recognized at the closing ceremonies held on April 11, 2014 at the conclusion of the final plenary speaker.

Student Registration Fee: $20

Non-student Registration Fee: $50
