Northern Virginia women are encouraged to join the effort in making a larger local impact with charitable donations to local non-profits through participating in a new women’s giving circle.
The newly-founded group, 100 Women Who Care Northern Virginia, is set to meet on Feb. 7 at the City of Fairfax Regional Library (10360 North Street) in Fairfax, Va. at 7:30 p.m. to make a collective donation to a nonprofit organization serving the local region. Its optimal goal is to get 100 women to each write $100 checks, thereby providing $10,000 to the selected local charity.
During its first meeting on Nov. 1, 2012, members voted and donated $1,900 to Loudoun Therapeutic Riding based in Leesburg, Va. The local non-profit’s mission is to empower the lives of people with physical, cognitive or psychological challenges through the benefits of horseback riding, carriage driving or other equine assisted activities and therapies.

“Our initial meeting demonstrated that a small group of women could make a substantial impact for a local non-profit charity that runs on a tight budget,” says 100 WWC-NoVa founder Traci Richards. “With 100 Women Who Care, women can come together to give back to our local community, but in a way that requires very little in terms of time and dollar commitment from each individual.”
“Simple and efficient” are essential components of the 100 WWC concept, explains Richards. The group meets quarterly for one hour and learns about local nonprofit agencies. Voted on by the group, one agency is selected to receive individual checks of $100 from the members. The checks are written directly to the local agency, not a foundation or 100 WWC, so there are no administrative fees.

The group is open to all women interested in participating. Members who attend and contribute at meetings are eligible to nominate local charities to be considered for the quarterly donation.
