1. A big congratulations to Fairfax High alum Anuar Khvan-Beiseuov. Now a sophomore at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA), he recently achieved the National Junior College Athletic Association’s (NJCAA) highest academic honor, earning the Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. He was a two-year member of NOVA’s men’s basketball team and started in four games while averaging 2.4 points and 1.8 rebounds this season. He will soon move on to attend Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. “We are very proud of [this year’s award winners], who exemplify all the positive attributes of being a student-athlete,” said Brian Anweiler, NOVA college-wide student life coordinator.

2. The senior residents of Sunrise Senior Living in Fairfax are looking just a bit happier these days – and staff members say, it’s all due to a little guy named Kuma. The facility recently partnered with DC Shiba Inu Rescue (DVSIR) to adopt an official pet, Kuma the Shiba Inu. “The smallest of the Japanese native dog breeds, the Shiba Inu is alert and agile with keen senses, and is also an excellent watchdog and companion,” DCSIR representatives said. “Kuma was rescued from a local shelter by DCSIR, and Sunrise at Braddock Glen was chosen from a number of worthy applicants by DCSIR as Kuma’s adoptive home.” Sunrise at Braddock Glen staff say, Kuma appears to be loving his new home, and the residents couldn’t be happier to have their new companion. “It truly is amazing that this dog, who was so callously discarded, is now loved and cared for by so many people,” DCSIR added.

Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton welcomed a baby boy at 4:24 p.m., weighing in at 8 pounds 6 ounces. His name could be a few days coming, though. Tell us in the comments – what do you think the royal parents should name the future King of England?
