President Barack Obama made a campaign stop at George Mason University Friday morning, rallying a crowd of about 9,000 voters. Obama spoke about the economy, women's rights, and called Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney out for backtracking on his stances on such such issues. The President coined the term "Romnesia," drawing laughs and cheers from the crowd. An estimated 9,000 people gathered on the field at the GMU athletic complex after waiting for hours in a line that snaked across the university’s campus. Virginia State Board of Elections says scammers call voters, solicit votes over the phone.
The Virginia State Board of Elections said Friday voters — particularly older Virginians — are receiving phone calls from unidentified individuals informing them they can vote over the phone. "This information is false," the SBE said in a release. "Virginia law does not permit voting through the telephone. Apart from voting at the polls on Election Day, eligible Virginians may vote an absentee ballot by mail or in-person at the registrar’s office or other authorized satellite location." SBE said it was not clear how widespread the scam calls had been. Health care, immigration and the economy were hot-button issues at the Asian American Northern Virginia Candidate forum on Friday night that featured political candidates running in Virginia’s congressional and Senate races. The event was hosted by several Virginia Asian-American organizations and focused specifically on issues that affect the Asian-American community.
