Fairfax City's Unemployment Rate Down from August

The local unemployment rate dropped .2 percentage points in September

 

Fairfax City's unemployment rate in September was far lower than the national average, according to data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics this week.

In September, preliminary information suggests the city's unemployment rate was 6.9 percent - more than 2 percentage points lower than the national average of 9.1 percent.

Locally, these newest numbers could indicate good news. Fairfax City's unemployment rate dropped .2 percentage points in September. The August unemployment rate was 7.1 percent - the highest on record in the past decade. The local unemployment rate in June and July was 6.6 percent.
