Police Release Sketch, Video of Suspect in Woodson Student Assault

UPDATE (March 26): Police released a composite sketch of the suspect sought in the assault near Frost Middle School.

UPDATE: Wednesday, 7:15 p.m.—Fairfax County Police released a video Wednesday evening on their YouTube channel of a possible suspect in the Monday assault. It appears the suspect is jogging. The following text was released with the video:

"Video of possible suspect on Mirror Pond; Described as between 20-40, thin, and driving a white, four-door Honda Accord, early 2000s model."

UPDATE (2:16 p.m.): Warren Carmichael of the City of Fairfax Police Department said the attack took place where Pickett Road ends, near Frost Middle School, outside the Fairfax City limits. The street later picks up again in the Old Creek subdivision.

City officers are patrolling nearby areas within the city limits while county police monitor the other side of Woodson High School. Don't be surprised to see Fairfax City police in front of Woodson along Main Street and in the strip malls along Pickett. 

"Of course, it’s not a given that the suspect would return to the same area anytime soon," Carmichael added.

UPDATE (10:03 a.m.): Police believe the suspect was driving a white, four-door, early 2000's model Honda Accord.

UPDATE (March 21): Fairfax County Police posted surveillance photos of a man matching the suspect's description. The timestamp on one of the photos puts the man running near Frost Middle School at 2:44 p.m. the day of the attack. 

Officers aren't sure if this photo captured the man they're looking for. 

Police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell said the victim was walking along a well-traveled path across from the high school when she was attacked. The suspect was described as being either white or hispanic and ... though Caldwell said "it's too soon to tell."

UPDATE (2:05 p.m.): Woodson Principal Jeff Yost sent this message out to parents:

"Please talk with your son or daughter and urge him or her to always be aware of surroundings and to avoid any potentially dangerous situations. Student should travel in pairs whenever possible and immediately report to an adult any suspicious cars of people in the vicinity of the school.

Thank you for your cooperation. If you have questions or concerns about this or other school-related matters, please do not hesitate to call the school."

Police say a 16-year-old girl was grabbed in the woods near Pickett Road while walking home from Monday afternoon.

The student had just set off down a path at the end of Pickett at around 4 p.m. when a man grabbed her neck from behind, according to Fairfax County Police. She fought back as her attacker assaulted her, knocking her to the ground.

The offender ran off, allowing the girl to go to a nearby house for help. 

Police say the suspect is 18-27 years old, 5-feet 8-inches tall, about 170 pounds with short black hair. He was wearing a white t-shirt and shorts at the time of the attack.
