Goals: This nonprofit focuses on expanding perspectives and opportunities in early education intervention. It emphasizes self-help, local initiatives, and fresh and creative new areas, while selecting and managing education grants though a business-like model.

Financials: In 2011 the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation approved $2.3 million in grants to more than 25 nonprofits, according to the nonprofit's website

History: According to the organization's website, Dr. Claude Moore created the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation in 1987 to enhance educational opportunities for young people in the Commonwealth of Virginia and elsewhere. "We specifically seek to help the talented and underprivileged (culturally and economically) of our society to maximize their educational development through literacy and advanced academic pursuits."
