PHOTOS: First Ever VolRUNteer 5K at GMU

185 runners of all ages came out to the event hosted by Volunteer Fairfax.

Volunteer Fairfax held its first annual VolRUNteer 5K and Fun Run Sunday, with participants starting at George Mason University and running through Old Town Fairfax.

The event drew 185 runners of all ages. President Jim Tragakis of the Volunteer Fairfax Board of Directors wore a frilly white tutu over his shorts and a coonskin hat in honor of the number of people who registered to run. The event's website held a poll to see what outfit Tragakis would wear if 500 runners registered; the ball gown appeared to win the vote.

The VolRUNTeer 5K and Fun Run had several corporate sponsors, including Debbie Dogrul Associates, LLC, GLobal Network Services, Eagle Ray, Venable, LLP and Aol.

Volunteer Fairfax works to match up the skills and interests of volunteers and donors to local nonprofit organizations.
