GMU Honored as One of Country's 'Greenest' Colleges

Fairfax just happens to be the home of one of the country's "greenest" and most "environmentally responsible" colleges, according to the Princeton Review.

Ten Virginia schools made The Princeton Review’s "Guide to 322 Green Colleges," released earlier this week - and George Mason University was one of them.

The free guide profiles 320 higher education institutions in the United States and two in Canada that demonstrate a strong commitment to sustainability in their academic offerings, campus infrastructure, activities and career preparation.

To produce the list, The Princeton Review partnered with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a national nonprofit organization best known for developing the LEED green building rating system. The USGBC works to increase efforts to drive change in how campuses and schools are designed, constructed, maintained and operated so that all educational facilities can enhance student learning experiences. 

Other Virginia colleges that made the list include Norfolk-based Old Dominion University and Winchester-based Shenandoah University, who were both new to the list this year, along with The College of William and Mary, James Madison University, Radford University, University of Richmond, University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University and Virginia Tech.
