1. Grand Opening of the Stacy C. Sherwood Community Center
Where/When: 3740 Old Lee Hwy, next to police station and Van Dyck Park, Saturday 12:30 p.m.
Why Go: Fairfax City's new community center, made possible from a hefty donation from the Sherwood family, opens to the public on Saturday. Join the Fairfax community for the ribbon-cutting ceremony and take a tour of the new facility.

2. Celebrate the Lunar New Year at Fair Oaks Mall
Where/When: Fair Oaks Mall, 11750 Lee Jackson Memorial Hwy., Fairfax. Saturday and Sunday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Why Go: Do your last-minute Valentine's Day shopping and check off a cultural activity for the week at the same time. Some 200 performers from 11 countries will be celebrating the lunar new year with songs, dances and various performances, including a kung fu demonstration.

3. Vagina Monologues at George Mason University
Where/When: GMU's Fairfax Campus, Friday (8 p.m.) and Saturday (3 p.m. and 8 p.m.).
Why Go: This funny and shocking series of sketches raises awareness of sexual violence against women. This year's procees will support Haitian women through art, advocacy, safe shelter and legal services.
Pricing: $25 general public; $15/ticket for groups of 10+; $10 faculty and staff; $5 students
4. Kid Architect CD Release Party
Where/When: Jammin' Java, 227 Maple Ave E, Vienna. Friday, 10 p.m.
Why Go: This Washington-based band will be performing live and celebrating the release of their newest album, "The Great Pretend." Two other bands, Newcomers and The Poly- Opto, will also be performing.
Pricing: Advance tickets are $10 or $12 the day-of.
5. Chocolate Tasting at Whole Foods
Where/When: Whole Foods Markets, 7511 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church. Friday, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Why Go: What better way to get in the holiday spirit (or pick up a last-minute gift) than by attending this chocolate tasting at Whole Foods in Tysons Corner. Yum!
Pricing: Free!
6. Valentine's Dinner at Evo Bistro
Where/When: Evo Bistro, 1313 Old Chain Bridge Rd, McLean. Friday through Monday, evenings.
Why Go: She tells you she doesn't need chocolate, or a card, or flowers, or expensive jewelry, or even a night out at a nice restaurant. De-coded, this means she'd actually love all of that. Make it easy on yourself and make a reservation. Evo Bistro will be serving it's regular menu plus a prix fixe special holiday menu.
Pricing: Prix fixe menu is $45-$55 per person. Regular menu items vary.
